Guadalajara
The Soul of Mexican Football
Guadalajara is Mexico's second city — the birthplace of tequila, mariachi, and some of the country's most intense football rivalries. Estadio Akron is one of the most modern stadiums in Latin America, set in the hills northwest of the city. Two legendary clubs, Chivas and Atlas, call this city home. The culture here is fiercely proud, warmly welcoming, and unlike anywhere else in Mexico.

Airports & Arrival
Guadalajara International Airport (Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla)
GDLAbout 25 km south of Estadio Akron; about 18 km southeast of the city centre
GDL is a modern, well-organised airport with several international connections. Uber is recommended for reliability and pricing — the official airport taxi rates are fair but Uber is usually slightly cheaper. Allow extra time on match days when traffic backs up on the main ring roads.
- →No direct rail from the airport — Uber is the practical option to the city centre (25–35 min, around $8–12 USD)
- →Official airport taxis available at fixed-rate booths in the arrivals hall — rates posted clearly
- →Rental car practical if you plan to explore Jalisco's tequila region or Lake Chapala
Stadium & Match-Day Transit
Estadio Akron
📍 Av. de Las Rosas 3476, Pinar de la Venta, Zapopan, Jalisco 45138
👥 Capacity: 49,850
Getting There
Estadio Akron is in Zapopan, about 17 km northwest of Guadalajara's historic centre. The Tren Ligero (light rail) Line 1 runs to Periférico Norte station, where game-day shuttles connect to the stadium — total journey about 40–50 min from the centre. Uber is also practical: 30–40 min from the city centre depending on match-day traffic.
Public transit
- →Tren Ligero Line 1 to Periférico Norte station — game-day shuttles connect to Estadio Akron from there
- →Total journey from the Centro Histórico via Tren Ligero + shuttle: about 45–55 min
- →Line 1 runs frequently and cheaply — grab a multi-trip card at any Tren Ligero station
Rideshare
- →Uber is widely available in Guadalajara and very affordable by international standards
- →Pre-match Uber from Chapultepec or Providencia takes 25–35 min
- →Post-match surges are significant — walk at least 10 min from the stadium before requesting a pickup
- →InDrive is also active locally and sometimes undercuts Uber on pricing
Driving and parking
- →Parking is available at Estadio Akron but fills quickly on match days
- →Periférico Norte and the main access road to Zapopan back up severely post-match
- →Allow 90 min after the final whistle before departing if driving
Walking and biking
- →Not walkable from the city centre — 17 km across a large urban area
- →MiBici bikeshare operates in central Guadalajara but does not reach the stadium
Match-day tips
- →Estadio Akron is architecturally spectacular — one of the most impressive stadium designs in North America
- →Arrive 90 min early — the shuttle approach from Periférico Norte can be slow
- →The stadium is surrounded by open land — very limited restaurants nearby, so eat in the city before coming
- →Security screening at Mexican World Cup venues is thorough — clear bags save significant time at the gates
