Monterrey
Mexico's Industrial Capital, Football's Mountain Stage
Monterrey sits in a dramatic mountain valley flanked by the Sierra Madre Oriental — one of the most visually stunning urban settings in Mexico. Estadio BBVA is home to Club Rayados, one of Liga MX's biggest clubs, and stands directly against the mountain backdrop. The city is Mexico's most prosperous, with a cosmopolitan food scene, serious beer culture, and a deeply passionate football following. This is not just another Mexican city — it's a place that does everything with intensity.

Weather and packing
June: Hot, dry, and intense. Highs 34–38°C (93–100°F). Monterrey is known for some of the hottest summers in Mexico — the mountains trap heat in the valley.
July: Still very hot — highs 33–37°C (91–99°F). Some afternoon thunderstorms provide brief relief. Humidity lower than coastal Mexico but the heat is real.
- →Lightweight, breathable clothing is essential — Monterrey heat is not to be underestimated
- →Sunscreen and a hat for outdoor fan zones and daytime sightseeing
- →Carry a large water bottle — dehydration is a genuine concern
- →A light layer for indoor air conditioning — Monterrey's restaurants and venues keep AC very cold

Airports & Arrival
Monterrey International Airport (General Mariano Escobedo)
MTYAbout 20 km northwest of the city centre; about 30 km from Estadio BBVA
MTY is a modern international airport with good connections from the USA and across Mexico. Uber and DiDi both operate from the airport. Allow extra travel time on match days — traffic on the ring roads can be heavy.
- →No direct rail from the airport — Uber or DiDi is the practical option (25–35 min to city centre hotels)
- →Official airport taxis available at fixed-rate stands in arrivals — rates are posted and fair
- →Rental car useful if exploring the surrounding mountains or making day trips
Stadium & Match-Day Transit
Estadio BBVA
📍 Av. Pablo Livas 2011, Guadalupe, N.L. 67190
👥 Capacity: 51,350
Getting There
Estadio BBVA is in Guadalupe, about 10 km east of Monterrey's city centre. Metro Line 2 runs to the General Anaya station, from which game-day shuttles connect to the stadium — about 35 min total from the Centro. Uber and DiDi are also reliable and very affordable. Driving is possible but traffic near the stadium on match days is significant.
Public transit
- →Metro Line 2 to General Anaya station — game-day shuttles connect to Estadio BBVA from there
- →Metro tickets are inexpensive — stored-value cards available at any metro station
- →Total journey from Centro via Metro + shuttle: about 35–45 min
Rideshare
- →Uber and DiDi are both widely used in Monterrey and extremely affordable
- →Pre-match ride from the Centro or San Pedro takes 20–30 min
- →Post-match surge pricing is significant — walk 10–15 min from the stadium before requesting a pickup
- →Pre-booking a scheduled Uber or DiDi before kickoff locks in better pricing
Driving and parking
- →Parking is available at Estadio BBVA but fills very early on match days
- →Av. Pablo Livas and access roads back up severely for 60–90 min post-match
- →Park-and-ride with the Metro from further west is a practical alternative
Walking and biking
- →Not walkable from the city centre
- →EcoBici bikeshare operates in central Monterrey but does not extend to the stadium
Match-day tips
- →Estadio BBVA is one of the most visually dramatic stadiums in the world — the Cerro de la Silla mountain rises directly behind the south stand
- →Rayados fans are extraordinarily passionate — expect the full Monterrey football culture on display
- →Arrive at least 90 min early — the stadium draws huge crowds and the security queues can be long
- →Bring water for the outdoor queue — Monterrey heat in June is serious
