Las Vegas went from having no major league teams to hosting an NFL franchise, an NHL franchise, a Formula 1 street race, and a steady rotation of championship events and combat sports. For event travel it is close to purpose-built: everything is compressed into a small area with enormous accommodation capacity.

Getting around
Airports
Harry Reid International (LAS) sits about 10 minutes from the south end of the Strip, closer to a major city centre than almost any other American airport. Rideshare pickup is in a dedicated garage rather than at the terminal kerb.
Local transit
The Strip is walkable but longer than it looks: end to end is over four miles and casino frontages add distance. The Monorail runs along the east side of the Strip only. During F1 weekend, road closures reshape pedestrian routes significantly.

A sports weekend in Las Vegas
A worked example, not a fixed schedule. Adapt it to whatever is actually on.

Friday
Check into the South Strip if you are walking to Allegiant Stadium, mid Strip if you want everything else. Eat in Chinatown on Spring Mountain Road, which is a short ride and a fraction of Strip pricing.

Saturday
Walk the pedestrian bridges to the stadium from Mandalay Bay, or take a rideshare in summer. After the game, head toward the Strip on foot before requesting a car to avoid the managed pickup queue.

Sunday
Fremont Street downtown for cheaper drinks and a completely different atmosphere, then out of Harry Reid, which is three miles from the Strip and the easiest major airport exit in America.
Practical travel tips
Planning Las Vegas
- Walking distances on the Strip are consistently underestimated. Two adjacent resorts can be a 20 minute walk apart once you cross the casino floors.
- Resort fees are added at checkout and are not optional. Compare total cost when booking.
- Allegiant Stadium has very limited parking and heavy post-event congestion. Walking to the Strip and getting a ride from there is usually faster.
- Race weekend closes large sections of Las Vegas Boulevard at night. Check the closure map before booking a hotel on the circuit.

Thirty-two clubs in two conferences play a 17-game regular season across 18 weeks, each club taking one bye. Fourteen teams reach the playoffs, seven per conference, in a single-elimination bracket. The Super Bowl is played at a neutral site chosen by the league years in advance, which is why the host city is known long before the teams are.

A championship contested over a season of Grand Prix weekends. A standard weekend runs practice on Friday, final practice and qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. A number of rounds each season use a sprint format, which replaces one practice session with a shorter Saturday race and its own qualifying session. Round count and the sprint calendar change year to year.
