Milan Sports Travel Guide
Milan is a two-club city where both clubs share the same ground, which makes it the only major European football destination where the stadium is almost guaranteed to have a fixture on any given weekend of the season. San Siro sits west of the centre with its own Metro station, and the rest of the city is a compact grid of fashion, food and design that supports a long weekend without needing a second match.

Getting around
Airports
Malpensa (MXP) handles most long-haul traffic and is about 50 minutes from Milano Cadorna on the Malpensa Express. Linate (LIN) is far closer, roughly 15 minutes from the centre on the M4 Metro line, and is the better arrival point if your route allows it. Bergamo (BGY) serves low-cost carriers and is an hour out by coach.
Local transit
The Metro is the backbone and San Siro Stadio on the M5 puts you a short walk from the ground. Trams cover the gaps and are pleasant rather than fast. The historic centre is walkable end to end in about 30 minutes. Buy a day ticket rather than singles on a match day.

A sports weekend in Milan
A worked example, not a fixed schedule. Adapt it to whatever is actually on.

Friday
Arrive into Linate if you can and take the M4 straight in. Base yourself around Brera or the Duomo, then aperitivo in the Navigli rather than a full dinner.

Saturday
Duomo rooftop and the Galleria in the morning, then M5 out to San Siro Stadio around two hours before kickoff. Stay west afterwards for a drink before heading back rather than fighting the first Metro wave.

Sunday
Brera and the design district, or the train out to Monza if the circuit is open for a visit. Malpensa Express from Cadorna or Centrale for the flight home.
Practical travel tips
Planning Milan
- Serie A fixture dates and kickoff times are confirmed only weeks ahead and move for broadcast. Book flexible travel if the match is the point of the trip.
- Italian grounds require the ticket to carry the holder name and matching photo identification at the gate. Buying from a resale site in someone else name is a real risk of being refused entry.
- Check which club is at home. The two tenants have different ticketing systems, different away allocations and different sold-out patterns.
- August is quiet in the worst way. Many restaurants close for weeks and the league has not started. Late September through May is the season to travel for.
- Aperitivo runs roughly 18:00 to 21:00 and is the cheapest good meal in the city. Plan around it rather than booking dinner at 20:00 out of habit.
