Bayern moved to the Allianz Arena in 2005, leaving the Olympiastadion where they had played since 1972. The new ground is wrapped in inflatable panels that light up in club colours and is visible from the autobahn long before you reach it. The club has dominated German football for most of the modern era and is a regular in the late stages of European competition, which means the calendar reliably includes fixtures worth travelling for.

German football offers the best value matchday experience in Europe and Munich is the easiest version of it to reach. Standing terrace tickets are priced at a fraction of Premier League equivalents, beer is sold on the concourse, and the U-Bahn runs to a station at the ground. The problem is supply: those cheap tickets go to members and locals, and the visitor route is a more expensive seated ticket booked well in advance.

U-Bahn line U6 to Fröttmaning is the only sensible route, followed by a ten to fifteen minute walk across a raised esplanade that funnels the whole crowd toward the ground. From Marienplatz in the centre the journey takes about twenty minutes. Trains run frequently before and after fixtures and the system absorbs the crowd well, but the esplanade itself is the bottleneck rather than the trains.

- Fröttmaning at the ground itself, which is functional and busy rather than a destination
Plan around this
- The standing terrace is the cheapest and best part of the ground and is sold overwhelmingly to members. Plan on a seated ticket unless you have a local contact.
- Fröttmaning is one U-Bahn station serving a full stadium. The queue after the whistle is orderly and long, so allow 45 minutes to clear it.
- Bundesliga kickoff times are set by broadcasters weeks ahead and Friday, Saturday and Sunday slots all get used. Do not assume a Saturday afternoon.
- Check the Oktoberfest dates before booking. The festival runs roughly late September into early October and doubles hotel rates across Munich.

The arena runs a combined stadium tour and club museum most days. Access is reduced on matchdays and around European fixtures, and the tour is popular enough that walking up on the day is often not an option. Book online.
