Philadelphia Sports Travel Guide
Philadelphia puts all four of its major professional teams in one stadium complex at the south end of a single subway line, which makes it one of the most straightforward sports cities in America to visit. You can stay in Center City, ride the Broad Street Line for fifteen minutes, and be at any of the venues. The reputation for a hostile crowd is overstated for visitors but the atmosphere at a rivalry game is real.

Getting around
Airports
Philadelphia International (PHL) is 20 to 25 minutes from Center City on the SEPTA Airport Line, which runs directly into the main downtown stations. It is one of the better airport rail links in the US and worth using over a rideshare.
Local transit
The Broad Street Line runs from Center City straight to NRG station at the sports complex in about 15 minutes and is the standard way to get to any game. SEPTA regional rail covers the airport and the suburbs. Center City itself is walkable end to end in about 30 minutes.

SEPTA in from the airport and base in Center City or Old City. Dinner on East Passyunk, drinks in Fishtown, both of which say more about the city than anything near the stadiums.

Independence Hall and the historic core in the morning, then the Broad Street Line south to NRG a couple of hours before the game. Ride back and finish in Center City.

Reading Terminal Market, then the Art Museum steps if you want the obvious photo. Airport Line back to PHL, 25 minutes from Center City.
Practical travel tips
Planning Philadelphia
- Take the Broad Street Line to the complex. Driving means paying for a lot and sitting in the exit queue afterwards for no benefit.
- Check whether two teams are playing the same day. The complex holds four venues and a doubled-up schedule changes the parking, the trains and the bar wait times.
- Tailgating at the football stadium is a serious operation and lots open early. If you have a lot pass, use it.
- Rivalry fixtures against New York, Dallas and Washington sell differently and price differently from a routine home game. Identify which one you are buying into.
- Eat outside the stadium. East Passyunk and Fishtown are the reason to come a day early.
