Lincoln Financial Field anchors the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, where all four of the city’s major professional teams play within a few hundred yards of each other at the end of a single subway line. That layout makes Philadelphia one of the easiest sports cities in America to visit without a car: stay in Center City, ride the Broad Street Line for fifteen minutes, walk to the gate. The crowd’s reputation for hostility is largely overstated for a neutral visitor, but the volume at a division game is real.

How it got here
The history that still shapes what you see on a visit.
The Eagles spent three decades at Veterans Stadium, a multi purpose concrete bowl on the same complex that was widely disliked by the end of its life. Lincoln Financial Field opened in 2003 as a purpose built football stadium next door, and the Vet was demolished the following year. The stadium has since added one of the larger solar and wind installations at any American sports venue, and it hosts the Army-Navy Game more often than any other site.

The Broad Street Line runs from Center City directly to NRG station at the south end of the complex in about fifteen minutes, and it is the way almost everyone arrives. SEPTA regional rail connects the airport to Center City in twenty to twenty five minutes, so the whole trip from plane to stadium is straightforward on public transport. Center City itself is walkable end to end in about half an hour.
Parking and rideshare
The complex has extensive lots and tailgating is a serious operation, with lots opening several hours before kickoff. If you are not tailgating, driving offers nothing: the exit queue after a full house is long and the subway is faster. Rideshare pickup is staged at designated zones away from the gates and surges immediately at the final whistle.

Planning a visit to Lincoln Financial Field
- Take the Broad Street Line. Driving means paying for a lot and sitting in the exit queue for no benefit unless you are tailgating.
- Check whether two teams are playing the same day. Four venues share this complex and a doubled up schedule changes the parking, the trains and the bar waits.
- Tailgating starts early and the lots are the social centre of the day. If you have a lot pass, use it.
- Division rivalry games against Dallas, New York and Washington price and sell differently from a routine home game.
- Eat outside the stadium. East Passyunk and Fishtown are the reason to come a day early.
