Boston Celtics Travel Guide
The Celtics were founded in 1946 and have won more championships than any other franchise in the league, including eleven in thirteen seasons during the Bill Russell era between 1957 and 1969. They moved into TD Garden in 1995, replacing the Boston Garden next door. The arena sits directly above North Station, which puts it inside the walkable core of the city rather than out beyond a ring road.

The arena is a subway ride from Fenway Park and a walk from downtown, the history in the building is displayed rather than hidden, and the surrounding streets are full of bars that were sports bars long before that was a marketing category.

North Station sits underneath the arena and carries the Green Line, the Orange Line and commuter rail to the northern suburbs, so most of the crowd never sees a street. South Station and Back Bay connect the rest of the region a short ride away. Boston is a genuinely walkable city and the North End, Faneuil Hall and Beacon Hill are all fifteen minutes on foot from the door.

- North Station is directly underneath the arena and served by the Green and Orange lines plus commuter rail. Driving downtown makes no sense.
- The subway generally stops running around half past midnight. Check the last train if you are staying out after a late finish.
- The arena shares its calendar with an NHL team and concerts, so home dates are frequent but the building is rarely quiet.
- The Sports Museum inside the arena requires separate admission and has its own opening hours, which are affected by the event schedule.

A play-in tournament decides the final playoff places in each conference, then four rounds of best-of-seven series lead to the Finals. An in-season tournament runs alongside the regular season in the autumn, with its games counting toward the regular-season record except for the final.
